Wrestlers compete at 4 events last week

The past week was a busy one for the Sedgwick County/Fleming wrestlers. They started their week out on Tuesday, Jan. 24 with a dual against Wray. The team would have liked to have seen a better outcome for this dual which ended with a score of 55-9, Wray.

The team then traveled to Yuma on Thursday, Jan. 26 for a dual. This dual ended with SCF on top, 45-30.

Wrestlers competing out of Haxtun and Fleming who ended their day at Yuma with wins were: 113-pound Kaiden Schelling, fall in 1:50; 126-pound Scotty Engle, tech fall, 16-0; 150 lb. Trent Wernsman, forfeit; and 165-pound Grant Statz, fall in 3:04.

The girls also wrestled a few matches against the Yuma girls. They each wrestled two matches. 100-pound Destanie Engle lost her first match and won her second match by fall in 5:24. 105-pound Aliyah Engle also lost her first match and won her second match by fall in 2:59. This completed the girls' weekend.

On Friday, Jan. 27 the team traveled to Curtis, Neb. to participate in the Medicine Valley Invitational. The team finished in second place with 151 points behind Sutherland who had 171.5 points.

Results from wrestlers competing out of Haxtun and Fleming at the Med Valley Invitational are as follows:

113-pound Kaiden Schelling finished his day 3-0 and the champion of his division.

126-pound Scotty Engle was 2-1 and placed second.

145-pound Jack Bornhoft finished his day 3-0 and won the championship in his weight class.

145-pound Trent Wernsman went 0-2.

160-pound Kale Volman went 1-2.

170-pound Grant Statz finished his day 2-1 and placed second.

On Friday, Jan. 28 the team wrestled in Stratton at the Stratton Invitational. The team earned their second, second place team finish for the week at this tournament with 139.0 points behind Wray who scored 244.5 points.

Results from wrestlers competing out of Haxtun and Fleming at the Stratton Invitational are as follows:

113-pound Kaiden Schelling finished his day 3-2 and in fourth place.

126-pound Scotty Engle was 5-0 and finished his day as champion of his weight class.

144-pound Jack Borhoft finished his day 2-1 and placed second.

144-pound Trent Wernsman went 0-2.

157-pound Kale Volkman went 0-2.

165-pound Grant Statz was 3-1 and finished in third place.

This week both the boys' and girls' teams are scheduled to travel to Dayspring Christian on Friday, Feb. 3 to dual Dayspring and Greeley West. On Saturday, Feb. 4 the girls are set to wrestle in Greeley at the Greeley West Invitational and the boys plan to travel to Yuma to participate in the Big "O" Memorial Duals.
