William Bamford

William Kevin Bamford, known as Kevin to his family and "Bubba" to  his many friends in Sterling, passed away on Dec. 31, 2022 after a short illness.

Kevin was born in Haxtun on Dec. 28, 1962 to Glendora and Willard Bamford. He grew up  in Haxtun with his brother Gary and sister Cheri. While Kevin was  born with disabilities that presented big challenges over the course of  his life, he was a happy child who brought great joy to his parents and  family. He developed an early fondness for books and stories and loved nothing more than having favorite stories read to him - as many  as possible! It only took him hearing a story once or twice before he  could recite half the book along with the reader.

After the tragic passing of his parents, Kevin first lived at the Haxtun Nursing Home, where he received excellent care. He then had the good fortune to end up at Sprawka House in Sterling, where he spent  the majority of his adult life. Sprawka is a special place, a home for  residents like Kevin who have developmental disabilities. Kevin  would spend daytime hours at the Duffield Center in Sterling, a day  program emphasizing communication, socialization and self-care.

Over the years Kevin had many caring and dedicated caretakers at Haxtun Nursing, Sprawka and Duffield and he became close to them as well as his fellow residents. Many of his caregivers were able to  visit him in his final hours, so he passed surrounded by the warmth and love of his Sterling community.

He is survived by his sister Cheri Brundige; sister-in-law Vicki  Bamford; niece Josie Nusz and husband Greg; nephew Josh Bamford; aunt Mary Ellen Vetto; cousin Britt Banks; many other cousins and family members; as well as by his caregivers and many friends in Sterling.

Kevin is predeceased by his parents Glendora and Willard  Bamford; brother Gary; and by his grandparents, Etta and  Glenn Groover and Mary and Lee Bamford.

A memorial service will be held in Sterling sometime in the spring of  2023. The family requests that any memorial gifts be sent in Kevin's name to: Eastern Colorado Services, P.O. Box 1682, Sterling, CO  80751.
