Gertie Jo Lewis passed away Sunday, Dec. 25, 2022 at her home in Holyoke at the age of 95.
Gertie was born December 31, 1926, in Daykin, Neb. to Emil H. and Elnora T. (Krueger) Fisbeck.
The family moved from Nebraska to a farm southwest of Holyoke when Gertie was six weeks old. In 1930, then moved to Paoli where her family owned a filling station. She attended grade school there before graduating from Haxtun High School with the Class of 1944. After graduation, Gertie had various employment in Holyoke and Paoli, doing clerical work with the Phillips County Clerk and Recorder, REA, Phillips County ASCS office, Paoli Co-op Elevator and Holyoke Grade School.
On Oct. 10, 1948 Gertie was married to E. Pryor Lewis. They resided on the family farm until 1965, when he became an agent for National Farmers Union Insurance Co., moving them to Monte Vista, Denver and then Fort Collins. After retiring, they moved back to Holyoke in 1991.
Gertie was a long-time member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Holyoke.
She is survived by brother Donald Fisbeck, Fort Collins, sister-in-law Vicki Fisbeck, Fort Collins as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Gertie is preceded in death by her husband, E. Pryor Lewis; parents Emil and Elnora Fisbeck; brothers Billy Ray Fisbeck, Herbert Fisbeck and Leo Fisbeck; sisters Darlene Vorce, Lorena Fisbeck and Doris Fisbeck; sisters-in-law Barbara Fisbeck, Elsie Fisbeck and Charlotte Thompson; and brothers-in-law Gene Vorce and Paul Thompson.
Graveside services were held on Dec. 29, 2022 at the Holyoke Cemetery with Pastor Gary Rahe officiating.
