The Haxtun Lady Bulldogs notched another sweep to hold go on a four-game winning streak while claiming victories in seven of their last eight matches.
In the last month, the team has topped seven of their last opponents, falling just once in the past four weeks, that loss to the Fleming Lady Wildcats.
Haxtun hosted the Lady Longhorns from Kimball, Neb. last Tuesday. The Bulldogs too, the match in three quick sets, 25-18, 25-10 and 25-11. The win gives the team an overall 11-8 record with three regular season games left on the schedule.
The Lady Bulldogs will face off with Sedgwick County, Weldon Valley and Merino over the next two weeks.
Two starters earned double-digits in the kills department in the three-set victory over Kimball last week. Sophomore Bobbi Starkebaum led the team with 11 kills while junior Cassidy Goddard trailed just behind with 10. Junior Megan Walker put down six kills and junior Julia Freeman and sophomores Kelsie Hadeen and Maggie Kilgour each added three.
Starkebaum, Freeman and Goddard all led in the net with a block each.
As a team, the Lady Bulldogs served 91.8 percent on the night. Sophomore Emily Anderson went 100 percent on the night while also registering two aces. Starkebaum and senior Grace Gibson led in aces, each sending over five. Goddard added two aces in the serving column.
In the setters position, Hadeen tallied 12 assists to Lady Bulldog hitters, the team high. Starkebaum added eight assists followed by Walker with seven.
Goddard led on defense from the back row with 16 digs. Walker came in with 13 digs followed by Gibson with seven and Starkebaum with four. On serve receive, Walker dug up 13 passes in the back row. Goddard and Freeman each added seven.
This week the Lady Bulldogs met up with the Lady Bulldogs in Otis for a Tuesday night match up. Results from that contest were not available as of press time.
On Saturday, Haxtun will host the top ranked 2A Lady Cougars from Sedgwick County in the annual Parent’s Night contest. Game time on Saturday is set for 2 p.m.
According to MaxPreps, the Lady Cougars are 16-2 overall with losses to just two Lower Platte teams including Wiggins and Merino.
