Lady Wildcats add sweeps number 6 & 7

A pair of wins - both sweeps - over the past week puts the Fleming Lady Wildcats at 9-2 on the season. The squad continues to hold a top spot in Colorado High School Activities Association's 1A rankings.

The week's play opened on Thursday, Sept. 15 with a home-court match against the unranked Lone Star Lady Longhorns. Fleming earned their first sweep of the week, their sixth of the then 10-match season, by scores of 25-16, 25-10 and 25-19.

Senior Kally Kirkwood and junior Madi Serrato led the team's offense at the net with seven kills each. Freshmen Ciana Lousberg and Ashley Bornhoft followed with three kills apiece.

Ciana Lousberg, the team's starting setter, also contributed 15 assists as the net for the Lady Wildcat hitters.

Serrato led the Lady Wildcats from behind the service line with four aces for the night. She put over 16 of 17 serve attempts.

Senior Lexi Schaefer added another three aces for the Lady Wildcat offense. As a group, the team made good on 97.5 percent of their serves. Seniors Laney Schliesser, Maddy Harms and Maddy Zink, junior Kylie Bretz-Hoskins and freshmen Siena Donnelson and Emoree Lousberg all served 100 percent in the contest.

Kirkwood also led the Lady Wildcats defensive game at the net with four blocks. She put up one solo and three assisted. Bornhoft followed with three total; one solo and two assisted.

Schliesser, the Lady Wildcats' back row specialist, led in both the dig and serve-receive categories. She put up nine digs with a single error and went 10 for 10 on serve receives.

Serrato followed Schliesser in digs with six ups. She committed no errors from the back row. Schaefer received eight serves for the night.

Friday night's road match against Prairie ended with the second sweep of the week. The Lady Wildcats defeated the Lady Mustangs by larger margins than the night prior taking wins in sets one through three by scores of 25-12, 25-10 and 25-6.

Kirkwood led the team in three categories against Prairie. At the net, she put 19 kills on the floor. Off 32 attempts, she committed no hitting errors. She also led the team's offense from behind the service line with four aces and added team-high numbers for the defense in digs with 10.

Ciana Lousberg followed Kirkwood's performance on offense and defense. She tallied seven kills in the contest and eight defensive digs. Schaefer also added eight digs in the match.

Harms led the defensive charge at the net with three total blocks. She put up one solo and two assisted rejections.

Schliesser tallied double digits from the back row on serve receive. She put 16 serves into play.

This week's schedule puts Fleming on their own home court on Thursday night, Sept. 22, against the Briggsdale Lady Falcons. Briggsdale enters at 8-3 overall and held the number eight spot in CHSAA's most recent rankings. A 4 p.m. start time is listed on MaxPreps for Thursday's contests.

On Friday night, the Lady Wildcats will stay close to home, traveling to neighboring Haxtun for the Lady Bulldogs homecoming match. Haxtun held a 6-7 overall record following last week's action. Matches are set to begin at 4 p.m. that afternoon.
