Fleming’s Lady Wildcats went 1-1 last week taking a loss at Wiggins and a win at home over Idalia.
The team traveled to Wiggins on Thursday, Sept. 1 where they met up with a highly-ranked, undefeated 2A Lady Tiger team. The local ladies played a close opening set, falling short by just two, 27-25. They lost sets two and three 25-16 and 25-19.
Fleming’s serve game looked solid in the match. As a group, the ladies made good on nearly 92 percent of their serves. Freshman Ciana Lousberg led the team with three aces in the contest. She attempted 15 serves and put 86.7 percent over the net. Seniors Laney Schliesser and Kally Kirkwood went 100 percent from behind the service line; Schliesser put over 12 and Kirkwood another nine.
Kirkwood put up double digits in the kill and dig categories. She led her team with 18 kills in the match committing only one hitting error. From the back row, she contributed 12 digs.
Lousberg led her team’s defense from the back row with 13 total digs. Schliesser added another 11.
On defense at the net, senior Maddy Harms led the group. She tallied three blocks — one solo and two assisted.
Schliesser and freshman Brooke Schaefer led on serve receive with 23 ups apiece. Senior Lexi Schaefer followed with 16 receives.
On Friday night, Fleming hosted the Idalia Lady Wolves. Idalia took the Lady Wildcats to four sets before falling in the match. Fleming bested Idalia in sets one, three and four by scores of 25-21, 25-13 and 25-11. Idalia took set two 26-24.
Kirkwood earned a triple double for the contest putting up double digits in kills, digs and assists. She led the squad in kills with 22 and added 12 assists and 15 digs. She also contributed four blocks for the Lady Wildcat defense.
Junior Madi Serrato followed in kills with six total. Lousberg and fellow freshman Quincy Stull added four kills apiece.
The Lousberg/Serrato duo led the group behind the service line with four aces each. Harms and Schliesser put over 100 percent of their attempts for the day.
Harms led her team’s defense for the second consecutive night at the net with five blocks. She put up one solo and four assisted.
Schliesser led the defensive charge from the back row with 16 digs. Lexi Schaefer and Kirkwood followed with 15 and Serrato also added double digit digs with 10.
Schliesser and the Schaefer sisters led Fleming’s serve receive game. Schliesser put 19 serves into play. Lexi and Brooke Schaefer matched each other at 15 apiece.
Fleming was scheduled to host Akron on Tuesday, Sept. 6. Their agenda also puts them on the road to Weldon Valley on Thursday, Sept. 8. Watch next week’s issue of the Herald for coverage of those matches.
