What can we reason but from what we know? -Alexander Pope

Letter to the Editor

Dear members of the community,

Little Sprouts Learning Center is working hard to reestablish a thriving childcare center that our community needs and deserves. The board, director and staff are diligently working hard to overcome the hardship we have endured over the past year. Because of these hardships, we are going full speed ahead with fundraising efforts. We want to make it clear that we have an urgent need for operating funds and we hope that our fundraisers during the month of August will help get us to next month and beyond. As a board and staff, we are working on more sustainable sources of funding, but for right now we have an immediate need and we are looking to our community for help.

Starting the first week of August, we will be selling Papa Murphy’s Pizza and distributing them from the Community Center every Thursday night. Pizzas will sell between $20-$25, look for the flyer on Facebook and please share with your family, friends, co-workers, etc.

We plan to host a Community Breakfast on Aug. 13 open to the public. We are looking for donations for eggs, sausage, milk, flour, butter, coffee, paper goods, or any monetary gifts to help with this event. We are also looking for some volunteers to help. Again, look for the flyer that will be posted on Facebook and throughout the community. Share with everyone you know!

CHS elevators are now accepting donations of any kind of grain by the bushel. Monetary proceeds from donations will be paid out to Little Sprouts Learning Center.

If you are interested in helping with these efforts, please contact Julie Brown or any board member.

LSLC Board and Director are reaching out to you, our fellow community members, because we are in a difficult situation. We desperately want to keep the center open because we know just how much the parents in the community rely on the services LSLC offers, but given the up-hill battle we have been fighting for the last year, it has been extremely difficult and challenging as many already know. We were just recently granted non-profit status again but grants involve a long process of applying and waiting. So while we are applying and waiting for grants to assist our situation, we need additional funding to keep our doors open.

A main area of concern is that we need more teachers but we can’t hire more teachers until we enroll more children and we can’t enroll more students because we can’t afford to hire the qualified lead teachers that are needed to fill the open positions. It is a cycle that we can’t break unless help steps in and gets us headed in the direction we need to go.

Some community members and businesses have already donated to the efforts of keeping LSLC open. We want to thank you so much for stepping up and making a difference. Every donation we have received, whether it be time or a monetary gift, are greatly appreciated.

If you would like to make a contribution to the children’s futures, you may bring any monetary donation to LSLC at 405 West Powell Street in Haxtun or you may mail donations to P.O. Box 154, Haxtun, CO 80731. Checks can be made out to Little Sprouts Learning Center.

Sincerely,

Board of Directors
