Haxtun Bulldogs finish track & baseball season; six earn honors

Six athletes from Haxtun's track and baseball teams earned post-season honors at the conclusion of the two seasons last week. Haxtun Baseball wrapped up as the team made a final four appearance last Thursday while others competed at the Colorado State Track meet last weekend.

Haxtun track athletes Owen Knode, Isaac Andersen, Kyle Fryrear and Michael Gerk were all named All-Conference for the 2022 season. Track participants qualify for All-Conference honors slightly different from other sports. To be considered for a post-season honor, athletes must place first in an event at the league track meet.

The four All-Conference team members, seniors Knode and Andersen, and juniors Gerk and Fryear, made up the four-by-100 and four-by-200 meter relay teams that placed first in the LPAA/YWKC League Meet in Holyoke on May 7.

The four-by-100 meter relay team placed first with a time of 45.55 and the four-by-200 meter relay team took first with a time of 1:34.70. Both relay team's went onto qualify for the Colorado State Track meet.

Seniors Andersen and Knode along with junior Jerron Turney and sophomore Kaiden Schelling were name All-Conference for their efforts on the Bulldog baseball team. The four were a part of baseball program that went 16-8 this season. Haxtun earned a Regional Championship, putting the team in the final four at State.

According to this season's stats on MaxPreps, Knode earned a .429 batting average this season. He registered a.500 on base percentage along with 33 hits and 27 runs batted in. The senior infielder also had a .842 fielding percentage in his final season as a Bulldog.

Andersen batted a .413 average with season with a .649 on base percentage. He tallied 19 hits, 22 RBIS and 35 runs. His fielding percentage came in a .837 in his senior season. On the mound, he saw 81 batters, striking out 14 of those. Andersen earned a .667 winning percentage as a Bulldog pitcher this year.

Turney went .435 from home plate in the 2022 baseball season. He had a .639 on base percentage. Turney registered 20 hits, 23 RBIs and 27 runs. He also tallied a .870 fielding percentage. As one of the Bulldog's starting pitchers, Turney earned four wins on the mound with a .500 winning percentage. He faced 224 batters, sitting down 45 of those with strike outs.

Schelling, a sophomore, batted. 224 for the Bulldogs. He registered a .458 on base percentage along with 13 hits, 14 RBIs and 24 runs. Schelling boasts a .953 fielding percentage. Like Andersen and Turney, Schelling also pitches for the Bulldogs. Of the 173 batters faced this season, Schelling struck out 32 and earned a .714 winning percentage on the mound.
