The Farmers State Bank of Brush/Akron has announced the winners of the 2022 Anna C. Petteys Scholarships. They are Brooklyn Plumb, Haxtun, Nallely Saucedo, Brush, and Emma Peeples, Arickaree.
The scholarships have been awarded annually since 1971 to outstanding senior girls from public high schools in Logan, Morgan, Phillips, Sedgwick, Washington and Yuma counties. They are sponsored by the Jack Petteys Memorial Foundation in memory of Anna C. Petteys, area educator, author and newspaperwoman. A committee selects finalists who are then interviewed on the basis of scholarship, leadership, character and college potential. This year, there were 10 girls from nine high schools who applied for the three scholarships.
Plumb, the daughter of Jeff and Kindra Plumb, plans to attend Northeastern Junior College and transfer to a four-year school where she will study Animal Science. Following graduation, she hopes to work in the agricultural pharmaceutical industry. While in high school, she was active in FFA, serving as chapter president and district secretary, was active in FBLA, was the National Honor Society secretary and played in the pep and concert band. She was active in 4-H at the local and state level.
Peeples, the daughter of William and Ronda Peeples, plans to attend Texas Tech University and study English. In high school, Emma was the president of National Honor Society and FBLA, secretary for student council and FFA and participated in four sports. She was staff editor for the yearbook and newsletter. She also volunteered at her local Vacation Bible School.
Saucedo, the daughter of Diana Mosqueda, plans to attend the Colorado School of Mines to study Chemistry or Chemical Engineering. While in high school she was the chairman of student government, the editor of the yearbook and participated in Latino Leadership, Gifted and Talented, Art Club and Drama. She also volunteered at Eben Ezer, St. Mary's Catholic Church and Give Back Day.
