Wildcats end regular season with loss

Fleming played host to the Caliche Buffaloes to end regular season play last week. The non-league loss put the Wildcats at 3-9 overall and 3-3 in their league for the season. They entered Districts in the number seven spot this week.

Caliche took a one-run lead after the opening inning last week, 2-1, but the Wildcats answered back in the second bringing six runs across home plate to go up 7-5.

The score remained 7-5 throughout the third before a five-run inning put the Buffaloes back on top in the fourth. The home team tacked on one run putting the score at 10-8 heading into the fifth.

Caliche sealed the win with 16 runs in the fifth. The final score read 26-8.

Junior Nolan Japp led the Wildcats at the plate with three hits on three appearances. Senior Nate Betley led the group in runs batted in with three.

Fleming took on Otis in round of Districts on Tuesday. A win over Otis would put them in a Friday, May 6 contest at Fort Morgan at noon against the winner of Haxtun versus Briggsdale. Watch next week’s issue for District 4 Baseball coverage.
