Thomas Franklin Saylor Sr. passed away peacefully at his home with his wife Vickie Marie by his side on April 19, 2022, his death sharing his grandson Daniel’s birthday of the same date.
Tom was a United States Air Force Veteran having served during the Cuban missile crisis. Prior to serving his country, Tom was an accomplished drag race car driver, auto mechanic and even learned to fly. Years after his honorable discharge, he started his own successful business, Saylor Electronics, Inc, working as a design engineer in Southern California, where he pioneer a new high-speed magnetic tape drive technology that was tested by a United States Navy submarine. He then moved his family to northern Nevada in 1982 where he remained until his death.
Tom was an active Rotarian holding multiple offices since the 1980s and was a deacon in church leadership both in California and Nevada. He was very supportive and passionate about his sons’ athletic, artistic, academic and professional pursuits. Tom re-married in 1999 and Vickie Marie lovingly kept her promise to care for him at home over the last 18 months.
Tom is survived by his sons Tom Jr., MD, and Matthew; their mother Jolynne; stepsons Rueben and RC; and his beloved papillon.
He is preceded in death by his mother Effie; father Frank; and sister Karen.
Tom will have a military honor guard burial in Federicksburg, Calif. at a later date. Tom would want others to find happiness whenever and wherever they can, as life, quite literally, is too short.
