A pair of league wins last Saturday over Weldon Valley leaves the Fleming Wildcats at 2-0 in the league and 2-3 overall. The Wildcats hosted the Warriors for a double header marking their only contests of last week.
Fleming opened the day with a big 27-1 victory over the visiting Warriors. The game ended after three innings.
Freshman Derek Houser, sophomore David Betley and junior Kody Donnelson led the Wildcats at the plate; all three batters batted a thousand with one hit on one at-bat. The duo of Derek Houser and Donnelson scored three runs apiece and tallied a pair of runs batted in. David Betley flipped those numbers with two runs and three RBIs.
Freshman Travis Johnson also made a solid showing at the plate batting .500 in the opening game of the day. His hit resulted in a triple, three RBIs and a run. Sophomore Matix Haney scored two runs and brought around two runners off a single hit.
Junior Triston Castillo scored three runs for the home team. Freshman Peter Brekel made a leading, three RBI showing; sophomore Christian Polly and freshman Kale Volkman tacked on two RBIs apiece.
Seniors Nate Betley and Joel Muller and junior Kolten Houser led the team in stole bases. Each of the three stole two bases for two attempts.
Junior Braylen Feather spent three innings on the mound. He faced 11 batters striking out five. He gave up three hits and a single run.
Game two of the day ended in a shut out for the home team who closed out the contest in three innnings, 23-0.
Junior Nolan Japp, Johnson, Kolten Houser, Nate Betley and Muller all batted 1.000. Johnson led across the board in batting hitting a triple on his lone hit. He brought three runners home and scored three runs of his own. Japp followed hitting two on three plate appearances. One of his two hits resulted in a double bringing around one runner for an RBI. He scored on each of his offensive outtings for three runs.
Kolten Houser tallied two hits on his two plate appearances and scored two runs. Nate Betley scored three runs off three trips to the plate. Muller ran the bases twice on four plate appearances. He also tacked on two RBIs.
Johnson, Japp, Kolten Houser and Muller led in base running with two stolen bases apiece.
Nate Betley took the win from the mound. He threw a no-hitter after facing 13 batters, striking out three.
The Wildcats are set to travel until the end of April. They were scheduled to play in Akron on Tuesday, April 5. Results of that contest were not available as of press time.
On Thursday, April 7, Fleming travels to Prairie for a league double header. The Mustangs enter that contest at 0-2, according to MaxPreps, with non-league losses to Otis and Caliche. Games are Thursday are set to start at 1 p.m.
Monday, April 11, takes the Wildcats to Briggsdale for another league double header. Briggsdale stood at 0-5 as of press time. They're scheduled to take on Haxtun on Thursday prior to their outing with Fleming. Games on Monday are set for a 1 p.m. start.
