The Fleming Wildcats closed out the regular portion of their season last week with a home win over Peetz and a one-point, road loss at the home of the 2A Sedgwick County Cougars.
The Wildcats opened the Tuesday, Feb. 15 contest against Peetz on top by eight, 12-4. The home team maintained the lead throughout the game while holding the visiting Bulldogs to single digits for each of the opening three quarters. Fleming held an 18-point lead heading into the final minutes of play, 39-21.
Peetz outscored Fleming by two in the fourth, 16-14, but fell overall, 53-37.
Junior Kolten Houser put up nearly half of the Wildcats 53-point total with 26 points in the game. He made five of seven shots at the free-throw line for 71 percent, added 18 off two-point buckets and sunk one three-pointer.
Houser also led under the net in rebounds with 13 - giving him a double-double for the night. Junior Harry Harms brought down 12 boards.
Thursday's contest at Sedg. Co. opened with even score of 8-all after the opening eight minutes. Fleming stepped up to take a four-point lead over the Cougars before halftime, 19-15.
Sedg. Co.'s squad came out strong after the break putting up 20 points on offense while holding Fleming to just a pair to take a 45-21 lead.
Those efforts switched in the fourth when Fleming added 22 poin ts and gave up nine, which was enough for one-point victory for the Cougars.
Houser and junior classmate Blake Feather added 12 points apiece for the Wildcats. Both players made one shot from outside the arc for three points. Houser made another seven from the charity stripe and one two point shot. Feather shot 75 percent from the free-throw line for three and made his remaining six on two-point shots.
Harms hit double digits in boards for his second consecutive contest with 12.
