SC/F wrestlers prepare for Regional tourney at NJC Feb. 11-12

The high school wrestling season is nearing the end for another year. To close out their regular season, the Sedgwick County/Fleming team traveled to Yuma to compete in the Big O' Memorial Duals. The team lost to Yuma, 48-24, defeated Chatfield, 33-27, lost to Dayspring Christian 36-30, defeated Payton, 41-24, and Resurrection Christian, 45-21.

Individual results from wrestlers competing out of Haxtun and Fleming for the day are as follows:

106-pound Kaiden Schelling won by forfeit against Yuma; defeated Sid Dillon of Chatfield, 14-1; won by forfeit against Dayspring Christian; defeated Nick Burdick of Peyton by fall in 1:05; and defeated Daniel Verderaime of Resurrection Christian, 1-0.

113-pound Scotty Engle won by forfeit against Yuma; defeated Atlas Grosh of Chatfield by tech fall, 15-0; Landen Beauvais of Dayspring Christian by fall in 3:10,; Luke Wilfong of Peyton by fall in 1:09 and Grant Slinkard of Resurrection Christian by fall in 4:22.

120-pound Gage Helgoth won by forfeit against Yuma; lost to Jackson Nelson of Chatfield by fall; lost to Joey Corliss of Dayspring Christian 7-3; and lost to Trenton Compton of Peyton by fall. He won his final match against Resurrection Christian by forfeit.

145-pound Joshua Wright was defeated by Tayte Smith of Yuma; Isaac Coronado of Chatfield; and Logan Clark of Dayspring Christian by fall. He then won against Peyton by forfeit. He lost his final match to Gage Graff of Resurrection Christian by fall.

Wrestling at 152 pounds was Ryan Davis. Davis was defeated by Jacob Martin of Dayspring Christian and Chase Hermes of Peyton by fall. He then lost to Adison Salza of Resurrection Christian, 9-2.

160-pound Hayden Burr defeated Zeke Martinez of Yuma by fall in :30; Lyle Wiley of Chatfield with a fall in :20; and Ethan Bonnell of Dayspring Christian by fall in 1:13. He then won against Peyton by forfeit. Burr then defeated Isaiah Johnson of Resurrection Christian by fall in :56.

170-pound Grant Statz was defeated by Kallen Blach of Yuma by fall. This was the only match Statz wrestled due to an injury.

The team plans to spend this week preparing for the 2A Region 3 tournament where they hope to punch their ticket to the Colorado State Wrestling Tournament to be held in Denver at Ball Arena Feb. 17, 18 and 19.

The Regional tournament will be held on the Northeastern Junior College campus at Bank of Colorado Event Center Feb. 11 and 12. Matches are set to begin at 4 p.m. on the 11th with three rounds being wrestled. Wrestling us scheduled to resume on Feb. 12 with matches beginning at 9 a.m. and the placing and Championship rounds set to be wrestled immediately following the regular session.
