With just four weeks left of play in the regular season, the Haxtun Lady Bulldogs have a handful of league games remaining on the schedule. One of those will take place Friday at the home of the Caliche Buffs, Haxtun's lone game this weekend. Last week, the Lady Bulldogs picked up a win over Otis but suffered a loss to Holyoke. The team currently holds an overall 4-7 record.
The Lady Bulldogs hosted two games last week, kicking things off on Friday with a contest against the Lady Dragons from Holyoke. The meeting marked the second for the two Phillips County teams this season. As it played out in the first, Holyoke came out on top, 49-25.
"We played a very good floor game against Holyoke and the girls executed our game plan well," Head Coach Arlan Scholl said. "We just could not quite match their strength and offensive attack but I was pleased with our effort."
Haxtun senior Taylor Schram led her team on offense with eight points. She earned those eight with two buckets from outside the three-point line and one two-point shot. Emily Anderson added five points as did Cassidy Goddard.
Allie Thompson, Schram and Goddard each pulled down five rebounds against Holyoke. Schram also registered four assists and nabbed two steals.
The following night, Haxtun stayed at home, this time hosting the Lady Bulldogs from Otis. The home-town ladies in red put up 22 points in the first quarter and 13 in the second to hold a commanding 35-8 advantage at the half. Haxtun went on to score seven points in the third and six in the fourth for a final 48-28 win.
"The next night against Otis we came out strong and took over the game early. We executed our zone and man offense well and some of our younger players were able to get some valuable varsity playing time," said Scholl.
For the second night, Schram led Haxtun's offense, this time putting up 11 points. She made one three and four two-point shots. Thompson registered eight points followed by Kelsie Hadeen with six and Anderson and Goddard, each with five. Anderson connected with each of her two free-throw attempts to go 100 percent on the night.
Cassidy Goodwin and Thompson both pulled down seven rebounds under the basket. Goddard brought down four and Bornhoft pulled down three. Schram tallied four steals and assists.
This week the Lady Bulldogs will travel to the home of the Lady Buffs as they take on Caliche Friday night. Haxtun notched a win over the Lady Buffs once already this season.
Tuesday, Haxtun will travel to Northeastern Junior College in Sterling for a match up with Briggsdale.
