The Fleming Wildcats took a narrow three-point win over the Longhorns of Lone Star to mark their lone win of the week. The Wildcats fell to Stratton the following night on the road to go 1-1 for the week.
Lone Star led by five after the opening quarter in Thursday night’s contest at Fleming, 19-14. They tacked another point onto their lead by the end of the half to go up 30-24 on the home team.
Fleming returned after the break to outscore the Longhorns in the third, 16-10, evening it out at 40-all.
The home team offense bested the visiting team by three in the final eight minutes of play, 10-7, for a 50-47 victory.
The following day, the Wildcats hit the road to Stratton to face off with the Eagles. Stratton came out to take a two-point lead in the first and advanced seven more in the second leaving the Wildcats down by nine at the half, 23-14.
The Eagles continued to dominate in the third quarter giving up just seven points to the Wildcats while adding 18 to go up 20 on the visiting team.
The Wildcats bested Stratton by seven points in the final quarter, but ultimately fell by 13, 49-36.
A shooting duo of juniors Braylen Feather and Kolten Houser led the Wildcat offense in both contests. Feather put up 18 points in the opening contest of the week against Lone Star; Houser also added double digits with 14.
A trio of juniors led the team under the net in rebounds. Houser, along with Harry Harms and Blake Feather, brought down nine boards apiece on Thursday.
Houser led in points and boards on Friday night at Stratton with 17 and 11, respectively, giving him a double-double for the night.
Braylen Feather followed in scoring with 10 points. Blake Feather and Harms followed in rebounds with eight each.
Wildcat basketball returns to Friday/Saturday contests this week. They’re first slated to host the 4-6 Idalia Wolves before hitting the road to Prairie on Saturday to face off with the 4-3 Mustangs in league action. Contests on both Friday and Saturday nights this week are set to start at 4 p.m.
