Lady Wildcats tack on three; remain #2

The Fleming Lady Wildcats remain in the number two spot in Colorado High School Activities' Association rankings following wins over Lone Star and Stratton last week and a Monday win over Otis. The Lady Wildcats fall behind only Briggsdale in the standings - both teams are undefeated and are set to meet in a couple weeks.

Fleming hosted Lone Star on Thursday evening and cruised to 12-point victory over the Lady Longhorns, 52-40. The home team bested the visitors in the opening two quarters and held a 17-point lead at the halfway point. Lone Star chipped away at the advantage in the third, outscoring the Lady Wildcats by five. With a 12-all fourth quarter, the Lady Wildcats would retain the lead for the victory.

Friday's outing at Stratton saw Fleming up by just three at the half, 25-22. A more solid defensive showing in the last half gave Fleming an 18-point win as the Lady Wildcats held the Lady Eagles to just seven points in both the third and fourth quarters. The Lady Wildcats took a 54-36 win on the road.

Senior Whitney Chintala and sophomore Madi Serrato led their team on the scoreboard in both the Lone Star and Stratton contests. Chintala earned her weekend-high 19 points against Lone Star and led the team with 16 the following night at Stratton.

Serrato also tacked on double digits in both week-ending games scoring 12 against the Lady Longhorns and 11 against the Lady Eagles.

That same pair, in addition to junior Kally Kirkwood, put up the team-high numbers in the rebound column with each player bringing down eight.

Kirkwood earned a double-double on Friday night at Stratton. She scored 10 points and brought down 10 boards. Junior Maddy Harms led for the night in rebounds with 13.

Monday's stats against Otis were unavailable as of press time on Tuesday. The Lady Wildcats took a home win by a final score of 47-29.

The now 10-0 Lady Wildcats are set to host the Idalia Lady Wolves on Friday night starting at 4 p.m. The Lady Wolves enter at 6-4 on the season.

On Saturday, Fleming travels to Prairie for league action with the Lady Mustangs. Prairie stood at 3-4 as of press time. Saturday's games are also slated for a 4 p.m. start.
