Bonnie Jackson appointed to fill vacant Fleming Town Council seat

The Fleming Town Council met for their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 12 at the Fleming Community Center. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Sue Einspahr at 6:30 p.m.

The following council members were present: Stefan Betley, Bill Langridge, John Stone and Ken MacCrone. No one was absent. Also present were Bonnie Jackson, Lewis Frank, Keith Beck and Michelle Asfeld.

Additions/Corrections to the Agenda: Einspahr asked to add town hall update and Niyol location address under Discussion Items. A motion was made and seconded to approve the agenda as amended, all voted and the motion passed.

Public Comment: None.

Appoint Council Member: A motion was made and seconded to appoint Bonnie Jackson to the Town Council, all voted and the motion passed.

Consent Agenda: A motion was made and seconded to approve the Consent Agenda, all voted and the motion passed.

Treasurer’s Report: Frank presented the Treasurer’s Report. T he fund balances are as follows; General Fund $210,771.42, Electric $85,023.52, Water $122,918.13, Sewer $107,909.05 for a NOW Account total of $526,622.12. The Money Market Account balance is $2,548.48 and the Conservation Trust Fund balance is $16,041.92 for a total of $545,212.52 in all accounts. A motion was made and seconded to approve the Treasurer’s Report, all voted and the motion passed.

Clerk’s Report: Asfeld informed the Council about a computer issue she had in December. After a discussion about the age of the computers at the Town Hall, a motion was made and seconded to purchase three new laptops from Matt’s Custom Computer Works in Sterling, all voted and the motion passed.

Electric: Beck reported that the bucket truck is currently fix. He’s also aware of the streetlights that aren’t working on the south side of town.

Water Report: Beck informed the Council that he’s going to switch over to a bleach system for both wells.

Sewer Report: No report.

Streets: Beck reported that some of the streets are a muddy mess.

Health and Safety: MacCrone shared his concern about the fire hydrant that was ran over in December. Beck said a State Patrol Officer has been investigating the incident.

Parks and Recreation: There was some discussion concerning the splash pad. Beck will contact a prospective contractor.

Action Items: A motion was made and seconded to designate the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Fleming Town Hall for the regular council meetings., all voted and the motion passed.

A motion was made and seconded to designate the Fleming Town Hall (114 N. Logan), the First National Bank of Fleming (201 N. Logan) and the Fleming Post Office (203 N. Logan) as posting places for the Fleming Town Council agenda. All voted. Motion passed.

After a little discussion, a motion was made and seconded to designate the South Platte Sentinel, as the official newspaper for the Fleming Town Council minutes because everyone has access to the free publication of the South Platte Sentinel, all voted and the motion passed.

The Audit Engagement letter was presented. A motion was made and seconded to hire Lauer, Szabo and Associates to conduct the annual audit, all voted and the motion passed.

Council Concerns: Einspahr presented her thoughts on expanding/updating town hall. She also made the Council aware of an address issue for Niyol.

Upcoming Meetings: Town Council Meeting on Feb. 9 at 6:30 p.m. at the Fleming Town Hall.

Adjournment: A motion was made and seconded to adjourn at 7:50 p.m., all voted and the motion passed.
