Chintala signs with NPCC; third sister to wear Lady Knight jersey

Fleming Lady Wildcat senior Whitney Chintala made her college selection official during signing ceremonies held last Thursday, Dec. 16. She has opted to play volleyball at the alma mater of her two older sisters - North Platte Community College in North Platte, Neb. Eldest sister Megan Chintala, who recently completed her first season as the Fleming Lady Wildcat Head Coach, began her collegiate volleyball career with NPCC in 2015; middle sister Bailey Chintala, who recently completed her senior season with the Saint Mary's Lady Spires in Leavenworth, Kan., began her college volleyball career at NPCC in the fall of 2018. Upon commencement of the 2022 season, all three Chintala sisters, the daughters of Dana and Lisa Chintala, will have played under the direction of NPCC Head Coach Alexa McCall.

"I'm excited that Whitney chose NPCC as well," McCall said. "She is a good fit for us and we are excited to see what she can bring to our team." McCall noted that she typically signs 14 players to her team each year.

Her selection to the Lady Knights volleyball team follows an accomplished four-year high school volleyball career. With State Tournament appearances in all four seasons, she's made contributions on two 1A State Runner-up teams as well as a 1A State Championship team. In her freshman year, she earned an All-American designation from MaxPreps - the only Colorado player to receive the honor that season. She's also received All-Conference accolades and All-State selections following all four of her high school seasons.

A versatile player, Chintala has added solid stats from all positions on the court surpassing a 1,500 mark in kills, digs and serve receives.

"We are looking at her as possibly a DS (defensive specialist) or a setter, and really believe that her athleticism will be a great asset," McCall added.

From the outside hitter's position, Chintala put 1,614 kills on the floor throughout her four years as a Lady Wildcat. She added 539 of those in her freshman year and 371 during her senior season while also holding a co-setter spot.

As a setter in her final year, Chintala put up 333 assists for the Lady Wildcat hitters. She finished with 378 total sets.

From behind the service line, Chintala made her career high showing during her final season as a Lady Wildcat. She put 55 aces over the net and averaged 97.6 on serve attempts. She closed her career with 178 aces and 97.3 serve percentage.

From the back row, Chintala nearly hit the 2,000 mark in digs. For her freshman through senior seasons, she put up 1,943 passes averaging 15 digs per match to close her high school tenure.

On serve receive, also from the back row, her stats show 1,505 ups across her four years. Her career high of 531 during her 105-set sophomore season and 232 in her senior year.

Currently undecided on a major, Chintala will explore her future career options while at playing at NPCC. "We are so excited to add Whitney to our team," said McCall. "I really love her attitude and competitiveness that she brings to the court as well."
