The countdown to Christmas is on and Santa will make his appearance in Haxtun very soon. The Haxtun Chamber of Commerce sponsored Country Christmas is slated for Tuesday, Nov. 30. The annual event promises opportunities for local shopping, visits with Santa himself and a hearty chili supper at the fire hall.
The Haxtun Fire Hall will set the scene for Santa’s visit the Tuesday following Thanksgiving. Along with the annual chili supper, Santa is set to arrive at the local fire station at 5 p.m. and will visit with children along-side the free-will offering dinner until 6:30 p.m.
While Santa’s appearance is always a children’s favorite, there is plenty for the adults throughout the evening as well. Many local businesses will be open for shopping as well as in-store prizes, promotions and drawings.
Purchases at local businesses on Nov. 30 will include a raffle ticket to be included in a drawing set to take place on center stage at 7:30 p.m. The majority of activities will center around the main stage located on the Points West Community Bank lawn along Colorado Avenue.
Center stage will also be the location for the Lone Star choir and turkey drop. The choir is set to perform throughout the evening, as are the Haxtun Dickens carolers. The turkey drop will take place at 7:45 p.m. just after the raffle drawing. Catch a Christmas gnome in the drop and win a free turkey.
Additionally, children will be able to ride the FFA grain train, there will be a s’mores bar, a performance from the local Christmas Cantata at Points West Community Bank and Santa’s workshop at the Haxtun Public Library.
Haxtun businesses open for shopping local on Nov. 30 include Every Bloomin’ Thing, The Dog House, Haxtun Liquors, Haxtun Super’s, Antiques Etc., Chandler’s Bar and Grill, Retread Threads, Haxtun Community Federal Credit Union, Haxtun Post Office and the Haxtun Building Center. Other shopping opportunities include local vendors with Thirty-one, Bloom, L’Bri, Mary Kay, Top Knot crochet, Epic Designs by Amanda, Usborne Books, Tupperware, Dirt Road Creations, Pampered Chef, interchangeable snap jewelry and Creations by Augie.
