Dr. Seinfeld will provide wellness exams, including preventative and acute care to patients
When Amy Seinfeld became an empty nester, she knew in her heart where she'd move to next. She was set on trading in her Florida beaches for Colorado mountains, and although she got the majestic views of the great plains instead, she's still bright-eyed about her decision.
"I look forward to sitting on my deck at the end of a long day to cozy up with some hot chocolate, watch my dogs play and horses run free," she said. "It's the perfect tranquil setting."
Dr. Amy Seinfeld is an osteopathic physician board-certified in family medicine and the newest addition to the Haxtun Health team. She began visiting with patients on July 19, practicing general medicine including wellness, preventative and acute care. She will also provide gynecological services to the women of Haxtun, hoping to fill a need in the community for this type of care.
Dr. Seinfeld works with patients in the main hospital and is available for family medicine appointments in the Haxtun Health Clinic throughout the week and on some weekends.
"In my role as a physician, my goal is to not just provide hands-on, medical care, but to also serve as an educator for my patients," Dr. Seinfeld said. "By informing patients about their health, wellness and nutrition, you can impact their quality of life short and long term."
Healthcare background
Dr. Seinfeld received her bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich., her post-bachelorette pre-med degree from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Fla., and her Doctor of Osteopathy from the Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Dr. Seinfeld has more than two decades of medical experience under her belt. Her career started with her first internship at St. Luke's Presbyterian Hospital in Denver, and since then, she has worked in several healthcare roles in primary care, including HIV medicine, rural urgent care, and most recently, women's health and diabetes management.
In addition to her role as a healthcare provider throughout the years, Dr. Seinfeld participated in several research studies and acted as a pharmaceutical consultant. She has also held professional academic positions as an assistant clinical professor at her alma mater, Nova Southeastern University.
Dr. Seinfeld is excited to get to know her patients and use her knowledge and experience to make a positive impact in their lives. Her approach in patient care is to understand the patient as a whole - not only the mental and physical condition of their health, but also their environment and specific circumstances. When she meets a new patient, she interviews them to understand as much as she can about who they are.
"I look at the patient as a whole and not in separate pieces," she explained. "My goal is to consider everything about the patient when working with them to determine the best recommendations for their healthcare. Fortunately, I have the opportunity to work with Haxtun patients hands-on nearly every day."
Having grown up with healthcare influences from her father and grandfather, she was exposed to the healthcare field at a young age. She found her place in family medicine, specifically, because of its vastness and spontaneity.
"There are so many aspects you can focus on in family medicine, depending on what part of the country you practice in and the population you treat," Dr. Seinfeld said. "You have the ability to specialize in anything that interests you. You truly can never get bored."
Get to know Dr. Seinfeld
Born and raised in Miami, Fla., Dr. Seinfeld has always been drawn to small towns over big cities. She gravitates toward the overall sense of community - the feeling of walking down the street and knowing the people around her. Haxtun combined that special feeling with a life-long desire to move to Colorado.
Dr. Seinfeld's adoration for Colorado began at a young age. As a child, she and her family vacationed in the Centennial State nearly every winter. Here, she learned to ski and fell in love with the Rocky Mountains. Now, it's her home.
"It's always been a dream of mine and when my twins graduated from high school, I knew now was the perfect opportunity to start this next chapter of my life," she said.
Dr. Seinfeld moved to Haxtun with her partner of many years, Eric, a telecommunications engineer. She has three daughters: eldest, Julianne, and twins, Alexa and Cory. In addition to her human children, she cares deeply for her animals: two dogs, Cali Bay and Peanut, and horses, Dixie and Gunner.
Outside of work, you'll find Dr. Seinfeld participating in an array of winter and summer sports, including hiking, dancing, skiing and horseback riding. She even has her ski pass ready to go for when the snow starts to fall later this year.
"I am excited to be able to re-connect with nature and I am grateful to have the opportunity to help Haxtun families," she concluded.
A meet and greet with Dr. Amy Seinfeld is slated for Wednesday, July 28 from 4-6 p.m. at the Haxtun Health courtyard.
