Michael to be honored at 100th Corn Festival in September

This will be one for the books.

The last weekend in September brings the time-honored tradition of the Haxtun Corn Festival and the 2021 event promises to be bigger and better than ever to honor the event's 100th celebration.

Sept. 25, 2021 will commemorate Haxtun's 100th Corn Festival and organizers recently announced this year's theme and grand marshal selections.

Long-time Haxtun resident and business owner Marilyn Michael has been selected to serve as Grand Marshal for the 2021 event celebrating the theme, "Cheers to 100 years!"

Michael opened her flower store, The Country Rose, in downtown Haxtun in 1984 and over the past 36 years has provided beautiful flowers and arrangements for numerous weddings, funerals, anniversaries, birthdays, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Mother's Day, Valentine's Day, May Day, graduations, Memorial Day and other special occasions.

"She has remained active in the community through the Chamber and other community events so in closing, I can't imagine our town without The Country Rose," one of several nomination letters for Michael read.

The Haxtun Corn Festival committee has also selected the evening's entertainment lineup featuring Chancey Williams along with special guests Judd Hoos and local musician Jordan Suter.

Additionally, The Emporium Brewing Company plans to return to this year's beer garden featuring a special beer release to honor Haxtun's 100th Corn Festival celebration.
