The Sedgwick County/Fleming wrestling team opened their much anticipated season last week with a triangular at Atwood, Kan. and a quad at Fleming High School.
The team traveled to Atwood on Friday, Jan. 29, where they competed with Rawlings County and County Line. Sedgwick County/Fleming came out victorious over both teams to win the event. They defeated Rawlings County, 37-36, and beat County Line, 46-24. Individual results from the triangular are as follows:
Kaiden Schelling, 106-pound class: defeated Gus Hanson, Rawlings County, by major decision, 15-6; won by forfeit over County Line.
Braxton Case, 113-pound class: won by forfeit over Rawlings County; won by forfeit over County Line.
Jack Bornhoft, 120-pound class: won by forfeit over Rawlings County; defeated Trysten Simons, County Line, by fall in :37.
Joel Muller, 138-pound class: defeated Kenneth Micek, Rawlings County, by fall in 5:02; defeated Keenan Smith, County Line, by fall in 1:49.
Hayden Burr, 152-pound class: defeated Eddie Hanson, Rawlings County, by decision, 8-3; defeated Zack Fowler, County Line, by fall in 1:55.
On Saturday, Jan. 30, the Sedg. Co./Fleming team hosted Holyoke, Highland and Peyton for a quad at Fleming High School. The team defeated all three visiting teams by scores of 62-6, 44-17 and 36-26, respectively. Individual results from the event are as follows:
Schelling, 106-pound class: won by forfeit over Holyoke; defeated Daniel Maxwell, Highland, by major decision, 18-6; defeated Luke Wilfong, Peyton, by decision, 7-6.
Joey Morrison, 113-pound class: won by forfeit over Holyoke; won by forfeit over Peyton.
Case, 120-pound class: won by forfeit over Highland.
Bornhoft, 126-pound class: won by forfeit over Holyoke; won by forfeit over Highland; lost to Iley Tuttle, Peyton, by fall in 2:42.
Keegan Colglazier, 132-pound class: won by forfeit over Holyoke; won by forfeit over Highland; lost to Daniel Warkentine, Peyton, by decision, 5-4.
Muller, 138-pound class: defeated Mason Veron, Holyoke, by fall in :56; lost to Zach Tittle, Highland, by fall in 4:42; defeated Chase Hermes, Peyton, by ball in 3:14.
Burr, 152-pound class: defeated Greg Coy, Highland, by major decision, 9-0; lost to Clint Brown, Peyton, by tech fall, 16-1, in 5:37.
Burr, 160-pound class: defeated Angel Martinez, Holyoke, by tech fall, 15-0, in 2:18.
The team's Facebook Page lists the next event on their schedule on Saturday, Feb. 6 at Yuma where they will compete in a quad with Yuma, Limon and Merino/Akron. Matches are set to begin at 1 p.m. that day.
