Garold Roberts and Tom Timm officially began their terms as Phillips County Commissioners after taking the oath of office Tuesday, Jan. 12. They join Terry Hofmeister on the Board of Phillips County commissioners.
Roberts and Timm ran unopposed in the November election and took over the commissioner positions held by Harlan Stern and Don Lock, who chose not to seek reelection.
Both new commissioners stressed the importance of making sure Phillips County runs efficiently and their goals include ensuring the county continues to be a great place for people to raise their families.
Roberts looks forward
to working with county employees
Roberts was born and raised in Holyoke and graduated from Holyoke High School in 1972.
He spent eight years as a lineman with Highline Electric Association, three years as a deputy and undersheriff for Phillips County, nine years as electric and city superintendent in Holyoke and 13 years as maintenance coordinator for Longmont Power and Communication in Longmont. He also spent four years working for Phillips County road and maintenance crews.
He has 18 years of experience as a volunteer fireman in Holyoke and has served on the boards of Holyoke Community Federal Credit Union and Phillips County Museum.
Roberts pointed to his desire to help and his more than 20 years of budgeting experience as some of his main reasons for seeking the position of county commissioner. He also said he is a people person and enjoys working with others to get things accomplished.
As commissioner, Roberts will be on the Workers' Compensation Insurance Pool, ComBoard, EMS Board, Emergency Management Board and Northeast Colorado Housing Board.
"I really look forward to working with Tom and Terry," Roberts said. "I think we'll be a good blend."
He added that he has worked with a lot of the employees of Phillips County and he believes in their experience and expertise and plans to utilize those resources whenever possible.
Roberts said working with the county's budget will be one of his major focuses in an effort to make sure the county operates efficiently. He also wants to maintain county infrastructure and work to pay off county debts.
He said he has a deep-rooted passion for this county and wants to work hard to ensure it remains a good place for people to live and raise their families.
He and his wife Janet have two adult children, Jason Roberts, Johnstown, and Kelly Grimm, Fort Collins, and four grandchildren.
In his free time, Roberts enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf and pheasant hunting.
Timm seeks to give back
to county, community
Timm has been a Holyoke resident since 1971 and graduated from Holyoke High School in 1988. He attended Mid-Plains Community College in North Platte, Neb., where he studied auto mechanics.
Timm was employed by Wayne Skold for 26 years in ranching and farming and he has had his own trucking company, Timm Trucking, for the past three and a half years.
He is a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Holyoke and is a past president of the Holyoke Gun Club.
"I've lived here all my life and I want to give back to the county," Timm said. He continued by saying that he wants to make sure Phillips County runs efficiently and in the best way it possibly can.
Timm will be on the Eastern Colorado Services for the Developmentally Disabled Board, Northeast Colorado Association of Local Governments, Livestock Committee, Seizure Committee and Emergency Management Board.
Timm said he is looking forward to working with people in the community and he wants to keep Phillips County active and make sure it continues to be a great place to raise a family.
Timm and his wife Tammie have four adult children, Vanessa Tharp, Victoria Dunker, Kendra Frank and Kody Timm, all of whom are active in the Holyoke community. They also have three grandchildren and Timm enjoys spending his free time with his family.
