Kenneth Laverne Salyards passed away Jan. 6, 2021 at the Haxtun Hospital at the age of 92.
He was born in Haxtun on April 23, 1928, the son of Lloyd and Anna (Holmes) Salyards.
Ken attended schools in Ovid, Dailey and Haxtun. The family lived in Ovid, Littleton and Eaton for a period of time, before returning to Haxtun.
He married Lily Mae Fetzer on Jan. 1, 1950 in Dailey; they were parents to three sons, Patrick, Mike and Dennis. The couple lived and farmed north of Haxtun and later in life moved to town.
For many years, he was a bus driver for the Haxtun School District, he truly enjoyed it. Ken and Lily loved to support their community. While driving the school bus they enjoyed going on several senior sneak trips. They were also Booster Club members, supported the local FFA and never missed a sporting event, especially when their grandkids were growing up.
Lily passed away June 8, 2015 and Ken continued to live in their home in town until entering the nursing home in December 2019.
Ken is survived by his sons Patrick Salyards, Mike and wife Susan Salyards and Dennis and wife Arlene Salyards, all of Haxtun; brothers Melvin Salyards, Grand Junction, and Jack and wife Shirley Salyards, Haxtun; grandchildren, Colton and Lee Salyards, Haxtun, Jesson and Nicole Salyards, Severance, Chelsey Salyards, Sidney, Neb., Lacey and Adam Petersen, Brush, Shaylee Salyards and Rio Klimek, Greeley, and Weston Salyards, Haxtun; eight great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Ken is preceded in death by parents; wife Lily; brothers Stanley, Everett and Eldon Salyards and sister Maxine Daniels.
Funeral services were held on Jan. 12 at the Haxtun United Methodist Church. Interment followed at the Haxtun Cemetery.
Memorials can be made to Haxtun United Methodist Church or Haxtun School-Bus and Transportation.
Baucke Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
