Rodney Kent Rahe passed away on Aug. 15, 2020 at the age of 76.
He was born to John and Hilda (Stahr) Rahe in Julesburg on Dec. 4, 1943. Rodney was baptized into the Christian faith and reaffirmed his faith through the rite of confirmation at the Zion Lutheran Church in Chappell, Neb. He attended a rural school north of Chappell through the eighth grade and then began high school in Chappell. After his parents moved from Nebraska, Rodney graduated from Haxtun High School.
In 1968, Rodney married Patricia Pike in Chappell and to this union three children were born, Kristine, Amy and James.
Rodney was a man of many skills and as such, he had a variety of occupations. Following graduation from high school, he joined the United States Air Force and was a mechanic on jet aircraft. After an honorable discharge, he did highway construction work and was part of a company that built the east end of Interstate 76. He also worked with a finance company in Sidney, Neb. He got a pilot's license and for many years owned his own areo-spraying business in Haxtun. Rodney opened a restaurant, the Silverhorn Steakhouse, and also a gift shop. He worked awhile for the Haxtun Coop. The last 25 years he was the owner of TC Transport, a freight company hauling freight from Denver throughout Northeastern Colorado and western Nebraska.
Rodney's most important role was being an amazing father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He will be remembered for his character and for his love of family. Rodney's favorite place was in his recliner with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren on his lap. He enjoyed antiquing and buying from online auctions to resell items at the Denver Flea Market. He was a problem-solver who often acted as a resource for his children on their household projects. He was a spiritual man, devoted to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family and others who knew him.
Rodney is survived by his wife Patricia, Haxtun; children Kristine and husband Jason Hatanaka, Denver, Amy Rahe, Denver, James and wife Megan Rahe, Commerce City, and Marrion Lerch, Germany; grandchildren Brittany Rahe, Rayden Hatanaka, Charlee Rahe, Ann-Marie and husband Leo Lerch, and Maxi Lerch; five great-grandchildren; brothers John and wife Barbara Rahe, and Gary and wife Diane Rahe; sisters Debra and husband Ron Bayne and Lana Hahn; and a host of other relatives.
Rodney is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Donald and Larry; and sister Dorothy Steele.
Funeral services were held on Aug. 22 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Haxtun.
