Pumpkin Vine News - W. A. Groves and Howard Groves were Haxtun callers Saturday, getting some repairs to over haul two Fords.

Fairfield News - Mrs. A. J. Anderson, Mrs. Bent Sorenson, Mrs. Noreen and Ruth Rodgers were dinner guests at the G. B. Anderson home on Sunday.

South Rockland News - Miss Minnie Fetzer had been helping Mrs. Fred Fulenberg cook for harvest hands the past two weeks. She returned home Monday.

The Haxtun Harvest

North County Line - The Misses Aletha and Norma Lundberg and Edna Mae and Phyllis Ann Mulvihill visited at the Albert Anderson home Thursday afternoon.

Sunrise News - Mrs. Roy Fleming spent several days in Haxtun last week, picking and canning cherries.

Fairfield News - Among those who spent Sunday afternoon at the Jumbo Reservoir were Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Cronquist and family, Mr. and Mrs. Orville Eckman, Walter Paulson, Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Skold and Mildred, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Skold and son, and C. C. Ruch and sons.

Highland Center News - Fred Brown drove to Loveland last Monday to see about cherries. His sister Vivian, her husband and baby accompanied him.

Mrs. J. K. Griffith, 63 passed away last Thursday, July 1, at the family home southwest of Fleming, Mrs. Griffith had been ill but a short time.

The opening of a new business enterprise in Haxtun was announced this week by George McCulloch, who will operate a battery and electrical service garage. The new firm is to be called Doc's Battery & Electrical Service and will be located in the new McCulloch building south of the Legion Hall.

Harvest of grain to start those coming week: With the warm weather of the last three weeks bringing small grain to maturity, harvest in the Haxtun community is expected to begin within the next few days. The barley fields have been ripening rapidly during the last week.

Haxtun fireman battled a wheat fire Sunday for over four hours as the wind-whipped flames chewed up over 350 acres of wheat and stubble and leaped Colo. 59 before being brought under control.

A good wheat crop, with many yields averaging in the 40-bushel to 50-bushel-per-acre range, filled the Haxtun Co-op Elevator quickly and forced elevator personnel to pile about 100,000 bushels of wheat on the ground just west of the elevator.

Rockland News - Melvin Sherwood spend Saturday with Jack and Betty Dix in the harvest field. Jeanne McClain, Crissa and Michael returned to their home that evening with Melvin. They sent the past week helping with the harvest.

Fleming News - The Fleming-Rockland Churches are planning an outdoor service in the Fleming Park at 10:30 on August 10. This will be followed by a potluck dinner at noon.

Rockland and Wages News - Mr. and Mrs. Bud Mekelburg became grandparents again over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Helms (Susan) of Kearney, Nebraska, became parents on Sunday July 6 to a little boy, Ryan Jacob. Great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Mekelburg and Gayle, Shelly and Kevin Mekelburg of Yuma were in Sutton, Nebraska, visiting the Art Scheierman family Thursday through Sunday and stopped to visit Sue and Ryan on Sunday.

Frank Lett recently became a great-grandfather again. Mr. and Mrs. Mark Mossoni of Broomfield have a new son, Cory Keith.

David Barber and Marnet Merrill of Sterling and Eldon Hinde of Haxtun helped Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Salvador with their harvest.

Haxtun Hospital District is exploring a possible affiliation with Poudre Valley Health Systems of Fort Collins. Brundige stressed that an affiliation agreement would not mean that PVHS would be running the local hospital and nursing home.

Milt and Jackie Roeder found friendly people and at least two places of interest on arriving in Haxtun. The couple, along with their nine-year-old Shihtzu, Bri, recently moved into the superintendent's house owned by the Haxtun School District. Milt starts his job as a part-time superintendent at Haxtun Schools on July 1.

As part of Haxtun's summer arts program children were treated to a quilting class put on by Helen Wengert, Diana Hill, Cinda Hill and Ann Olson. Some of the children that participated were Sara Kurtzer, Garrett Beu, Cole Fix, Shelby Knode, Hannah Conklin, Courtny Dickerson, Katie Kaus, Kelsey Garretson and Shelby Harms.

Fleming's class of 1960 met on June 16 at The Other Place, Haxtun, for a class reunion. Those attending: Tom Wilson, Arden Harms, Chuck Schmidt, Don Lock, Ron Sayor, Kenny Schaefer, Dale Pyle, Laura (Lambert) Melvin, Deanna (Bledsoe) Fetzer, Kathy (Uhrig) Luke, Anna Mae (Andrews) Pyle and Sonja (Baker) Burger.

The Haxtun-Fleming Herald

Monte Green burns out the tires on his funny car during Haxtun's Old-Fashioned Saturday Night on July 17. Green gave the crowd some excitement at the end of the burn out contest as he smoked the tires and sped down main street, twice.

Haxtun FLBA members who traveled to Nashville, Tenn. and saw the War Memorial Auditorium in Nashville. Those who competed at National FBLA were Katelyn Kaus, Elizabeth Kurtzer, Karci Lockwood, Jaiden Potter, Jeni Boerner, Kaylee Kuehn, Kelsey Garretson, Talya Mayhew, Macey Pierce, William Wilkening, Elliott Krogmeier, Kent Hiller, Brandt Davis and Roger Agnew.
