The Haxtun Harvest

The Wedding of Miss Maxine Meile and Jerome Lanckriet was solemnized last Wednesday, June 5, at St. Anthony's Church in Julesburg. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lou Meile of Haxtun and a graduate of the St. Gertrude's Academy of Boulder. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Homnore Lanckreit of Julesburg.

Mrs. Claus F. (Alma Alfreda) Johnson, 66, died Thursday, June 6, 1935. She was born at Boras, Sweden on April 15, 1869 and came to America at the age of nine years.

Miss Althea Delander of Haxtun was one of the nurses graduated from the training school at St. Luke's Hospital in Denver recently. She was included in the class of 20 young women who completed the three-year nurses' training course.

Following the wake of the greatest flood in history, creeks in western Logan and Weld counties went on a rampage again Tuesday night of this week. The water was heavy enough to carry away bridges that had been replaced within the last few days and to tie up both rails and highway traffic from Sterling to Denver.

Mrs. Fern Marguerite Schachterle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Schachterle, and Miss Eleanor Louis Sand, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Sand, both of Haxtun, received certificates at the commencement exercises held at Colorado State College of Education in Greeley last Saturday, June 8. Miss Schachterle's major was in elementary education and Miss Sand had majored in home arts.

Extreme damage resulted when a semi, owned by Pegler Sysco Transportation, Lincoln, Neb., collided with a rear end of a truck owned by Bamford Feedyard, Haxtun, LLC, on Friday, June 16. Rex G. Wheeler, North Platte, Neb., driver of the Pegler Sysco semi was cited for carless driving. The other driver, Jeffery D. Nichols, Fleming, was not cited.

The Fleming community is happy to receive a new couple into their midst. The newly hired superintendent of schools, John W. Condie and his wife Kathleen, will be moving to Fleming by July 10th. They currently live in Boise, Idaho and look forward to living in a small rural area and will be happy to return to that lifestyle.

Changing of the guard was at the top of the agenda in the June 13, 2000 Fleming School Board Meeting. Sad farewells were said to JoAnn Horton, the school superintendent of the past year and greetings were extended to John W. Condie of Boise, Idaho as he was officially hired for the coming year.

Brandon Nall and Ella Coffin splash around and play with water noodles at the Haxtun Swimming Pool on the first day of summer, June 21. Brandon is the son of Alan and Paula Nall, Haxtun, and Ella is the daughter of Alan and Laura Coffin, Haxtun.

Tessa Brammer sports her golden charm given to FFA members who have earned the State FFA Degree.

Eleven members of the Haxtun FFA attended the Colorado State Convention in Craig. The members are Jeff Hawthorne, Kyle Pierce, Garrett Shafer, Blake Mari, Janna Smith, Kimber Hadeen, Natashia Barker, Abby Kurtzer, Aimee Kanode and Natasha Helfer.
