What can we reason but from what we know? -Alexander Pope
Phillips County Extension Office staff have been working on re-establishing a community garden for the area and recently announced the receipt of four grow boxes courtesy of the Will Heginbotham Trust. The grow boxes will be placed on the Phillips County Event Center grounds. Hopes are the garden will benefit everyone in Phillips County. Those outside of Holyoke are encouraged to visit this garden this year with intensions to expand this garden to other cities within our County in the future.
After putting the boxes together, some thought they could benefit from some color. If you are up for the challenge, Extension agents welcome community members to develop some concept art to decorate boxes.
One side of the boxes will have a common side that states this is the Phillips County Community Garden. It will also have a thank you spot for any donors. Hopes are for each of the remaining 12 sides to be different. The categories include: towns including Amherst, Haxtun, Holyoke and Paoli; farming; ranching; hunting; schools, either together or for each school individually; 4-H/FFA; major events such as Corn Festival, County Fair, Dandelion Days and Old-Fashioned Saturday Night.
The dimensions are the following: four sides are six feet long and 20 inches tall; eight sides are six feet long and 20 inches tall.
Designs may be emailed to Deeona Johnston, [email protected] or mail/drop them off at the Phillips County Extension Office. Include your name, the category and dimensions. In your design, please remember to include your name so everyone can see who created the artwork.
