Tanley Andersen elected FBLA District VP

When school starts next fall, senior Tanley Andersen will take over a role as newly elected District 4 Vice President of Colorado State Future Business Leaders of America. Tanley, who has served her local chapter as an officer as well, is the daughter of Brandon and Julie Thayer, Haxtun.

The process of applying for a State FBLA office is broken into three phases, Tanley said, including an application, a test and the selection committee process. To apply, Tanley submitted a resume, headshot, letters of recommendation, school transcripts and a professionally written article relating to FBLA leadership and business education to be featured in the FBLA Today newsletter.

The knowledge test, she said, is comprised of 50 FBLA related questions as well as knowledge of state officer team responsibilities.

The virtual selection process includes a 15-minute phone interview with the State Advisor, a two-minute candidate speech promoting FBLA, the creation of a social media calendar for the first week of September along with posts, designing two pages of the FBLA newsletter, developing a state officer workshop and online interview questions.

This year, due to COVID-19 regulations, candidates learned of their selection via means of a video posted to the State FBLA social media platform.

Now that she has been selected as the District 4 Vice President, Tanley will be responsible for selecting a district officer team, planning and presiding over all district officer meetings, corresponding with chapters within her respective district, planning and preparing for the District 4 Leadership Conference in February and visiting local chapters.

"I am extremely excited and grateful for the opportunity to serve as the Colorado FBLA District 4 State Officer," Tanley said after learning of her new role. "Being a State Officer is a tremendous responsibility, but is an opportunity for growth and new experiences! Although it will be a lot of hard work, the rewards will certainly outweigh the workload."
