Commencement details released for HHS & FHS

Graduations will look much different this year but despite social distancing regulations handed down from the State, both Haxtun and Fleming schools are doing their part to honor the graduating class of 2020.

According to High School Principal Alan Nall, a virtual graduation video will be posted to the Haxtun School District’s YouTube account at 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 17; the original time and date slated for graduation this year. The video will also be hosted on the Haxtun School District Facebook page.

The District’s YouTube channel can be found by going to the following link, https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCslJ3pw2z8c9SStJCSFRN6g, or searching Haxtun Schools on the YouTube site. Other videos are set to be released on the channel including the annual Bulldog Booster athlete recognition year-end event. That video will be released this Wednesday, May 13 at 6 p.m.

Later that afternoon, graduates will have the opportunity to walk across the stage outside in the high school parking lot, however, that ceremony is limited, Nall said, to only students and immediate family.

At 3:20 p.m. graduates plan to take part in parade around town so that community members have an opportunity to take part in the graduation celebration. The route has not yet been finalized, but when it is, it will be published on the school’s Facebook page and flyers will be placed at local businesses.

Fleming School Superintendent Steve McCracken said a similar, informal parade will take place downtown Fleming on Sunday, May 17 as well, however, the official graduation ceremony will take place on June 14 at 2 p.m. following the Governor’s guidelines on public gatherings.

McCracken said the District plans to collaborate with the Northeast Colorado Health Department to conduct the ceremony outside on the football field in June where graduates will receive diplomas.
