Final numbers reported from municipal election

On April 7, Haxtun voters elected a new mayor and three council members to fill vacancies on the Haxtun Town Council. Newly elected officials will be sworn into office on Monday, May 4.

According to information from Haxtun Town Clerk Karie Wilson, a total of 235 residents voted in the election held earlier this month; 34 at the polls and 201 by absentee ballot. Haxtun’s registration list has a total of 783 active and inactive voters.

Haxtun’s newly elected Mayor Brandon Biesemeier is currently a council member and will have to resign his position on the Council before he is sworn into his new office. At the same time, council members Ryan Horton, Tana Pope and Craig McCarty will also take their oath of office. Others who ran for a seat on the council include Chris Daley and Robert Cionek.

Once Biesemeier has resigned his current council position, the remaining council members will need to declare a vacancy for Biesemeier’s position and start the process of filling that seat.

The following is a breakdown of total votes in the April election: Biesemeier, 191; Horton, 197; Pope, 169; Daley, 46; Cionek, 139; and McCarty, 141.
