The 2022 "A Healthier Weigh" challenge produced commendable results for 17 people who completed the 12-week nutrition and fitness program. This group included teams, pairs and individuals from Phillips County. There were two four-person teams, three two-person teams and six individuals who completed the challenge. This program was run simultaneously in six northeast Colorado counties and Bent County in southeast Colorado. Several long-time faculty members of Haxtun Schools plan to retire at the end of the year. Michele Bivins and Laurie Wilcox both leave the District with a combined 53 years of service to the Haxtun School District. Michele Bivins taught for 31 consecutive years as the Haxtun sixth through eighth grade math teacher. The women of the District Three American Legion Auxiliary wanted a fun way to select a winner of a quilt stitched together in 2017 by Elenna Firme of Haxtun from blocks made by members of the units in the District. The Garden of the Dawgs greenhouse build project began with Haxtun Junior High students in October. With advice from many valuable sources, the students used repurposed and donated materials for construction, completing it in February. In addition to the plants, students came up with garden projects to build and sell including bird baths, elevated beds, birdhouses, fairy jars and wash tables.
