The Republican River Water Conservation District achieved the first milestone of retiring 10,000 acres in an area in the Republican River Basin known as the South Fork Focus Zone. In 2016, the states of Colorado, Kansas and Nebraska agreed the state of Colorado would retire 25,000 irrigated acres along the South Fork of the Republican River. Colorado FFA State CDEs were held primarily at the Colorado State University campus on Saturday April 30 and Sunday May 1. The Haxtun FFA chapter sent 26 to compete at the state competitions. It is time for the stock dogs to take center stage again in Yuma County. The third annual Heartstrong Cattle Dog Classic will be April 28-30, at Ronda Pletcher’s ranch located at 31228 County Road M, southeast of Yuma.
