HAXTUN ELEMENTARY students have taken advantage of warm afternoons while logging miles for 100 Mile Club. Big things are coming to Haxtun’s main street. Members of the Haxtun Town Council heard plans for the old Smith Hardware building from Dewane Pace, Haxtun Health’s Chief Executive Officer. Haxtun Health purchased the building at 125 South Colorado Avenue this fall. Five Haxtun Bulldog football players were honored with post-season awards following a six-game season. The team finished 3-3 overall with wins over Dayspring Christian Academy, Caliche and Akron in the 2020 season. The Fleming Wildcat football team celebrated a successful 2020 season with a repeat Championship win over Stratton/Liberty a couple weeks ago. Seven Wildcat student-athletes earned accolades following the completion of this year's undefeated, 8-0, season. The 2021 "A Healthier Weigh" challenge is set to begin in six eastern Colorado counties in early January. There will be a staggered start as each county has setup their own registration and weigh-in date. However, the educational content of the program will be consistent for all counties. Donald Gene Salyards died peacefully at 1:15 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020 at Heritage Point in Mishawaka, Ind. following a brief illness at the age of 89. Royce James Potter passed away peacefully with his family by his side Nov. 28, 2020. Royce was born June 3, 1942 to Rose and Roy Potter in Haxtun. Royce was the youngest of five siblings, Robert (Bob), Helen, Richard (Dick) and Patricia. He graduated from Haxtun High School in 1960 and attended Colorado State University for two years. William Bruntz, Haxtun, passed away in Fort Morgan on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2020 at the age of 91. Bill was born on Jan. 23, 1929 in Scottsbluff, Neb. to Fred and Mary (Wambolt) Bruntz.
