The first step in the process, she said, is to approve the SIPA agreement, which...

The November ballot includes a question asking Haxtun residents to align municipal elections with County elections in November. Typically, Haxtun municipal elections are held each year in April. During those elections, voters are tasked with making decisions on local ballot issues as well as filling seats on the Haxtun Town Council. • Under the Wire

    Gary Hodgson|Oct 21, 2020

I have discovered one of life’s best kept secrets. When it hit me like a ton of bricks, I felt the need to share it with you. My discovery? If you really, really enjoy what you are working at, don’t let it show. In fact, act like you don’t like it at all. Let me explain. Work, you see, is supposed to be, well ... you know ... work. Drudgery, boring and awful should describe work. If you are having fun, it must not be work. If you seem to be enjoying yourself, you have to be goofing off. Nobody i...

In the hurries of the everyday, it is easy to miss out on fun moments that entertain by their humor and timing, things that catch us unaware and ripe for the picking. They include small ironies, laugh-at-ourself mistakes, subtle innuendos over coffee, and whatever causes unbidden smiles or chuckles to sprout. Once one begins to cultivate those moments, it is gratifying to see how often they occur. It also confirms how frequently we used to push them aside without second thoughts. So it was that...

As temperatures begin to cool off and corn begins to ripen, combines, grain carts and trucks are pulling into and out of fields which is a clear sign that this year’s corn harvest is underway. And while these vehicles and pieces of equipment are powerful and have great use, their larger size and slower speeds are a reminder of the awareness that all drivers need to have during this season. Research shows that the months of September through December are the most common months for car a...

Letter to the editor, I see a parallel to what is happening in our country. We have become Nineveh of book of Jonah fame. Our political system has moved from both sides selling us what their interpretation of center is and we should buy into it. Long story short, the left has sold out we the people to violence and destruction and threats. With a biased often dishonest press, though less violent, the right is not helping to right the course. At all. So, pick your poison? Back to Nineveh, we the people have been blessed with a Jonah who is...

  • Times Past

    Oct 21, 2020

13 Years Ago Oct. 16, 1935 Welcome as it is after the feed shortage of the drought, cheap corn in plentiful supplies already is looming as a major threat to the stability of the hog industry, according to reports which the Colorado State College Extension Service have received from the Agricultural Adjustment Administration. This would set the stage for one of the greatest increases in pork production that the country has ever seen. This year's harvest will be about 2,194,000,000 bushels of...
