Alternative crops bring both benefits and challenges that are not present in the major crops of our region. Growing an uncommon crop means pest pressure will likely be lower. June Pauline Edwards passed away on Sept. 20, 2020 in Haxtun at the age of 68. June was born on July 10, 1952 to Willis and Mary Ann Holtman in Girard, Kan. In 1968, she met Warren Edwards and they wed on Nov. 29, 1969 going on to have three children: Jesse, Damon and Cindy. June dedicated her life to being a fantastic and wonderful mother. June was also a second mother to many kids in Haxtun. She was always very active in the lives of all of her kids. Adam John Powell passed away on Sept. 21, 2020 at the age of 39. Adam was born on April 27, 1981 in Atwood, Kan. and grew up in McDonald, Kan. attending Cheylin elementary and high school.
