Fifteen sets of volleyball and the Haxtun Lady Bulldogs came out of a weekend tournament 3-1 with wins over fellow league and other 1A opponents the team will see later this season. Haxtun picked up wins over Otis, Dayspring Christian Academy and Caliche before falling in the final match-up of the day to Merino. In a five-match opening week of volleyball action last week, the Fleming Lady Wildcats took three sweeps in two days of competition. Win number one went on the books for the Fleming Wildcats who defeated the visiting North Park Wildcats in a Saturday afternoon season opener. Fleming looked ready in the opening minutes of the game and tacked on two touchdowns while holding North Park scoreless. Beverly Jean (Hargis) Anderson died on Aug. 12, 2022 at Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush at the age of 86. Beverly was born Sept. 26, 1935, in Pierce to Charles Hargis and Bernice (Mackay) Hargis. She attended school in Pierce, graduating in 1953.
