Several long-time faculty members of Haxtun Schools plan to retire at the end of the year. Michele Bivins and Laurie Wilcox both leave the District with a combined 53 years of service to the Haxtun School District. Michele Bivins taught for 31 consecutive years as the Haxtun sixth through eighth grade math teacher. Throughout the years, she has also coached high school and middle school basketball and junior high volleyball as the head and assistant coach. 13 Years Ago May 26, 1937 As a safety measure and aid to motorists, the oiled paving on Highway No. 6 has been painted with an orange stripe. Starting at Sterling and continuing to the Nebraska state line, the highway department is painting the stripe on all hills and curves of the highway. Haxtun Health will host its annual Health Fair on Saturday, June 4. The Health Fair will be from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Haxtun Community Center located at 125 E. Wilson Street in Haxtun. The women of the District Three American Legion Auxiliary wanted a fun way to select a winner of a quilt stitched together in 2017 by Elenna Firme of Haxtun from blocks made by members of the units in the District. District Three includes units from Fort Morgan, Sterling, Wray, Akron, Brush, Holyoke, Yuma, Peetz and Haxtun. Each unit sold numbered tickets to Veterans from their unit. The Bulldog baseball season came to a close Thursday afternoon at All-Star Park in Lakewood. Haxtun played in the second semi-finals match up of the day against the Holly Wildcats. Three days of State Track turned into a whirlwind of action and emotions thanks to mother nature. Temperatures in the Denver area reached the high 80s on Thursday but Friday was much, much different as snow began to fall causing delays in the Colorado State Track Meet schedule. Every member of this year's Lady Wildcat track team qualified to compete at the State Track Meet this season. The eight-member squad made their presence known when they entered Jeffco Stadium in Lakewood last week. Wanda R. West passed away on May 13, 2022 at Fairacres Manor in Greeley at the age of 98. Wanda was born July 21, 1923 on the Hulse Family homestead in Fleming to George W. Hulse and Josephine (Pletcher) Hulse. Wanda graduated from Fleming High School in 1941. She lived all her life in Fleming with the exception of a time during WWII, where she worked at Remington Arms packing bullets for the war. Wanda was united in marriage to Lee M.
