The Haxtun Board of Education has selected Marsha Cody as the next Superintendent of Haxtun Schools. Marsha was chosen during a special meeting last week and verbally accepted a short time later via a phone conversation with Board President Rich Starkebaum. The Haxtun FFA Chapter held their annual Oyster Fry on Monday 29. The Oyster Fry is a time for the Chapter to thank member auction buyers for their continued support. This is also a time for members to meet with their buyers and talk to them about work. It is usually held in October but had to be postponed. On April 14, the General Assembly sent to the Governor a bill that could establish a new State agency. House Bill 1097 contains recommendations from a behavioral health task force, including setting up the behavioral health administration, initially to be housed within the Colorado Department of Human Services. Once the behavioral health administration is up and running, CDHS has until Nov. 1, 2024 to decide if it stays in CDHS or becomes a stand-alone agency. Glenda A. (Goddard) Hovel passed away March 15, 2021 in Mesa, Ariz. at the age of 99. Glenda was born Dec. 23,1921 on a farm two and a half miles east of Haxtun. She was the daughter of Glenn and Alta Goddard. The family moved to a farm five and a half miles south of Haxtun and she attended school at Highland Center and later at Fairfield where she went through the 10th grade. The Haxtun Lady Bulldogs improved their record with two wins last week, sweeping Prairie and Wray, both on the road. The team also took on Holyoke, but suffered a three-set loss at the hands of the Lady Dragons. Haxtun took the sweep over Prairie on the road last Tuesday, 25-6, 25-10 and 25-13, snapping the Lady Bulldogs four-game losing streak.
