  • Under the Wire

    Gary Hodgson|Mar 3, 2021

My vet mentioned recently that I had never written about him. That does put him in a rather exclusive group. Over the years when I have needed a break from reporting on my own embarrassing moments, I mixed in a few from folks around me. Some were not too happy about it, either. When he said that to me, there seemed to be no regret in his voice. In fact, I got the impression his observation was part of the answer to my question whether he could stop by to look at a four-legged patient needing...

  • Fearlesss Faith

    Ken Frantz|Mar 3, 2021

Some weeks there are certain phrases or words that pop up unbidden but that are nevertheless welcome. • Strokes from other pens

    Mike Ralph, Haxtun|Mar 3, 2021

I recently saw the profile and picture of the new officer with the Haxtun Police Department. A young fellow in his first police gig. I had to dig into my scrapbook to find the newspaper profile from 47 years ago of a 21-year-old me in a small burg with badge 001. There was no 002. In the photo it’s obvious my armament is a Smith & Wesson revolver with 12 spare cartridges in loops on the gun belt. Today’s Glock guys with three spare mags might laugh, but there was a reloading technique where you could get six out the belt and into the gun alm...
