    The Republican River Water Conservation District has surpassed the first requirement of the 2016 Republican River Compact Administration resolution by retiring 10,000 irrigated acres prior to the end of 2024 with 15,023 acres currently under contract and approximately 2,000 contracted irrigated acres in the process of being finalized.     The county assessors and treasurers are working on the 2023 tax rolls for their counties. The tax roll includes an assessment on irrigated acres from the Republican River Water Conservation District. The RRWCD assessments fund the district’s ongoing Compact Compliance efforts. In the past, the assessment was $14.50 per irrigated acre. Acres irrigated in the 2022 calendar year will be assessed $30 per acre on the upcoming tax roll.     During their recent Board meeting, the Republican River Water Conservation District Board voted to greatly increase their payments for conservation programs. Wells located in the South Fork Focus Zone will receive the highest increase in payments.
