Letter to the Editor, All dogs bark. Most all of them on occasion but not a noticeable problem most of the time. I have one neighbor, however, whose rottweiler continues to howl and clash along with one or two others from the same corner; it’s bedlam over there sometimes. Despite five years of police complaints and a 2023 court appearance the owners ignore town-provided ultrasound, anti-barking devices to curb this nuisance. Town code page five, letter G prohibits repetitive noise, which includes your pets. There have been quiet times but schoo...
Letter to the Editor, Please permit me to make myself perfectly clear. I could care less if one wants to smoke, just don’t throw your cigarette butts out your vehicle window into my yard, the corner street and the neighborhood, especially during a red flag warning! Please. I know not everyone watches the TV news/weather, but the colored map of the eastern plains counties including our community is not a frivolous bulletin to hassle you, but a serious matter deserving respect. This public notice frequently issued during high winds, heat in o...
Letter to the Editor, While in Montana I learned that Sheriff Elliott had passed. From the Saturday door campaign to a deputy’s funeral to several meetings in his office, I got to admire his humility and wit. Thom Elliott was a warm, kind listener. He could be tough with a knack for tongue-in-cheek expression, yet matter of fact intent of which to had better heed! In 2020 he told me my conceal carry permit would be approved if I wasn’t an habitual drunkard. I think he liked my training. I recall the head on truck passing another near Pao...
Letter to the Editor, Some of you I know won’t agree with me however I’m not responsible to protect others who won’t protect themselves or others. A COVID card, not a mask, is my defense. Some 90 percent of recent hospitalizations ion Colorado and elsewhere are non-vaccinated people. 9News reported 57 percent of Coloradoans are now fully vaccinated — good for them, me included! I believe all health care workers, teachers, business management, office personnel, service industry, stores, public gatherings, first responders and anyone who encount...
There is an element out there in the local regional truck driving breed with a bad attitude. The speeding, pushing, bullying, tailgating and careless passing by a few hurts your image. And I know several good drivers in town who are a credit to the profession. On Feb. 3, about 10 a.m., I witnessed three grain trucks, one in the right lane racing each other westbound past the grocery store at about 60 miles per hour, dust and gravel flying! I stood outside aghast. I didn’t report it because I had no plate or operator company name — just a blu...
Letter to the Editor, As the newcomer in the Town Council race, I have to try harder to get your vote April 7. This boomer did retire in Haxtun for its safe, affordable location, having paid higher taxes and helped out after the March 2017 wildfire. The past three years I’ve participated in The Community Foundation of Northern Colorado, establishing a legacy fund for the hospital district. I’ve paid my dues with donations to BOCES, Samaritans Purse, Shield 616 police tactical gear and County Sheriffs of Colorado membership. I belong to the Gun...
